Basics of Coordinate Metrology
Unit 3:  Coordinate Systems in Space

Step 1 of 5
  Next

The objective of this unit is to learn - on the basis of the acquired knowledge of polar and Cartesian 2-D coordinate systems - about coordinate systems in space. The participants should be able to determine points in space and to detect axes and their orientations. They will be able to apply rules of thumb, such as the "right-hand rule" and "right-thumb rule", correctly, depending on the context. They will know how to transform Cartesian coordinate systems and also know the principle of constructing cylindrical and spherical coordinate systems.

Based on the knowledge in 2-D coordinate systems (Polar and Cartesian) in chapter 2, the objective of this unit is to learn about coordinate systems in space.
